Some of our global users may wonder if Local Falcon has 3D Secure (3DS) integration, which is required by some countries as a sort of two-factor authentication process for making online credit card payments.
Well, the answer is yes!
Local Falcon is integrated with 3DS, enabling certain users to complete the additional verification steps required to make secure online credit card payments when signing up or changing their subscription plans.
What Is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is a security protocol designed to provide an additional layer of authentication for online credit and debit card transactions. It was first used by Visa and is also known as Verified by Visa, and by Mastercard as Mastercard SecureCode.
The system adds an extra step to the checkout process where the cardholder is prompted to enter a password or code to verify their identity. This helps reduce the risk of unauthorized use of the card for online purchases.
Why Is 3D Secure Required in Some Countries?
In some countries, use of 3D Secure is mandated by major financial institutions to enhance the security of online debit and credit card transactions.
In India, for example, 3DS authentication is required by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Other countries and regions where 3DS is used include Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, and Nigeria.
The requirement is intended to protect cardholders from unauthorized transactions and to reduce instances of online fraud.
By implementing 3D Secure, card issuers and merchants can ensure that cardholders are authenticated before completing a transaction, adding an extra layer of security.
Overall, 3D Secure mandates are part of a broader effort to improve the security of digital transactions and increase consumer confidence in online payments.
Merchants in countries where 3DS is optional, such as the United States, may need to implement it in order to process credit card payments from some of the countries and regions mentioned above.
This is why Local Falcon has implemented a 3DS integration we want to ensure that as many people across the world can access local rank tracking for their businesses and clients!
How Does Local Falcon's 3DS Integration Work?
Local Falcon processes payments using the Stripe system, which integrates 3D Secure into its payment system to provide an additional layer of security for online card transactions.
Stripe automatically assesses whether a transaction requires 3D Secure based on various factors, such as the card issuer and the country where the card was issued.
When a transaction requires 3D Secure authentication, the cardholder is redirected to their card issuer's 3D Secure page after they've entered their card details.
After the cardholder completes the authentication process, the card issuer sends an authentication result (authenticated or not authenticated) back to Stripe.
Depending on the authentication result, Stripe completes or declines the transaction. If the authentication is successful, the transaction proceeds. If not, the transaction may be declined.
